In Just Two Days…

Dad’s second session the Sunday before last was with Allison, James, and their adorable little girl.  This family is very special to us.  Dad has photographed their wedding, maternity session, their daughter’s newborn pictures, baptism, family sessions and more, and now they are expecting their second baby.  It is a special gift to share in so many important moments in the lives of a growing family.  They have become friends of ours and we cannot be happier for them!  The day before the session was their daughter’s 3rd birthday.  Just two days after this session, they welcomed their beautiful baby boy into their family!!!  We are so excited to meet him for his newborn session very soon!  Congratulations to Allison, James, and the new big sister.  Many blessings to your amazing family!

Little did Allison know that as she looked at her belly and imagined what it would be like to meet her son, he would be there in her arms less than 48 hours later!

This is the tattoo James got of his daughter drawn from one of the pictures dad had taken of her!  How awesome is that!!

Mom LOVES this one!

Emilia’s Maternity Session

Expecting a baby is so exciting!  It is like growing love and hope in your belly.  Emilia and Keith are expecting their second baby next month.  They came over for a maternity session and included their son who is going to be a big brother very soon!  They are a terrific family and we are so happy for all the wonderful moments they will soon be experiencing all over again.  Emilia is a beautiful mom and we love that she was laughing and enjoying herself through the session.  Thanks for having dad capture this time of anticipation for your growing family!

Monica’s Maternity Session at Fort DeSoto

Early in the morning on the Tuesday after Christmas dad met Monica and Jeff at Fort DeSoto for a maternity session.  On that day three years before, dad was with Monica and Jeff as Monica’s sister Rachel married Seth in a beautiful ceremony by the water.  It has been wonderful for us to keep in touch with Rachel and Seth and to meet and photograph their adorable son!  Now their son will soon have a new cousin and on Rachel and Seth’s anniversary dad was with Monica and Jeff, photographing Jeff playing the guitar for his baby just as he played the guitar during the wedding ceremony three years before.  We LOVE what we do!

Dominique’s Maternity Session

In just a week and a half Dominique is expecting her first baby.  Time may seem to go by slowly with how anxious Dominique and her husband are to meet their baby, but once the baby arrives time will fly by!  She came over for her maternity session to capture memories of this special time.  When she pulled up, mom was putting us in the car to leave and little brother decided to show Dominique and her husband what their lives would soon be like.  He threw a toddler tantrum about putting his shoes on, but they didn’t seem phased at all.  They are going to be wonderful parents :) .  Good luck and we cannot wait to meet the new baby!

Khanh’s Maternity Session

Friday evening dad met a great couple who are expecting their first baby.  Khanh looked beautiful and full of that happiness that pregnant women radiate whenever they think about the baby growing inside them.  They started out here with a studio session and then went to a nearby park for more pictures.  Dad cannot wait to meet the baby for the newborn session!  Khanh is going to have dad photograph the baby through the first year which is always really special.  Khanh, we hope everything goes wonderfully for the rest of your pregnancy and your delivery!  Best of luck and dad can’t wait to see you again when he gets to meet the baby!

Happy Mother’s Day!

“Making the decision to have a child is momentous.  It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”

-Elizabeth Stone

“You don’t really understand human nature unless you know why a child on a merry-go-round will wave at his parents every time around – and why his parents will always wave back.”

-William D. Tammeus

“I remember my mother’s prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life.”

-Abraham Lincoln

“Mothers hold their children’s hands for a short while, but their hearts forever.”

And for the grandmothers:

When You’re the Mom of a Mother
By Beverly Beckham and Grandparents.com

When my older daughter became a mother nearly six years ago, I became a grandmother with a brand-new baby to love. But I also became a different kind of mother to my baby. I was useful again. I knew things. I understood. And the most important thing I understood was how much my daughter loved her child.

Ten months later, my younger daughter gave birth to her firstborn. “Did you feel this way, Mom? Isn’t it amazing? I never knew. Was I as cute?”

Motherhood, part two. That’s what grandparenting really is. Your kids grow up, go off to school, move away. And they don’t need you anymore. They don’t call for advice. And you think, you’re done. That’s it. The job is finished.

And then your kids become parents and you’re suddenly back in the game. “Mom, can you?” “Dad, will you?”

When a child is placed in a woman’s arms — in a hospital, at an airport, in a lawyer’s office, and whether the child is a newborn or a 10-year-old — a woman’s life changes forever.

And so does the life of her mother.

I watch my daughters wipe noses and hands, buckle car seats, peel grapes, insist upon “please” and “thank you,” wipe up spills, dry tears, read books, blow bubbles, monitor the TV, play games, and work outside their homes. And I am struck by the rigors of mothering — how hard it is and tiring and endless, and how amazing it is that anyone signs up for this job.

And then I think, this was once my job. I did all this. “How did you do it, Mom?” my daughters ask. And they listen to my answer because I’ve been down the road they’re on now and they realize that maybe I know a few things they have yet to learn.

The mother-child connection. It changes. It evolves. It grows.

In the space between us now there is still no space. It is filled with children — theirs, but part mine. And on it goes. Mother to mother to child, this eternal bond that is recognized and honored on Mother’s Day.

Happy Mother’s Day to all moms!  Sending special mother’s day wishes to Andrea, Bronwyn, Allison, Erin, Weslie, Rachel, Elizabeth, Alison, Kendra, Lori, Kate, Jen, Jaclyn, Krystal, Meredith, Teresa, Amber, Stephanie, LaToya, Heather, Lara, Michelle, Tiffany, Carrie, Rochelle, Selena, Katie, Susan, Kerin, Jessica, Alicia, and to all the other moms and moms-to-be who have invited us into your experience of motherhood by having us capture you and your gorgeous children in photos.  Thanks to all of you!

On Monday dad took mom to the Lange Farm for her maternity session.  Though dad is there often for weddings, mom had never been there and said dad was right on when he says not only is it beautiful but everyone there is so nice!  Mom has been really busy lately and said it was great to spend the afternoon with dad doing something for the new baby.  The time until her due date is going to go by so quickly!  Mom had Kristine of Fabulous Faces do her makeup for the session.

Michelle and Mark’s Maternity

Check out the alliteration in that title!

Michelle and Mark had a beautiful wedding (with one of the most dramatic sunsets I can remember!) at Feather Sound Country Club back in the summer of 2006.  We were thrilled to hear that they are expecting a baby boy at the end of this year!  Last Sunday they came over for a maternity session and were just wonderful.  They got to see a little of what toddler energy and persistence looks like which Mark thought was funny.

Congratulations on your blessing.  You two will be wonderful parents!

Awaiting Baby

Two and a half years ago dad photographed Bronwyn and Robin’s wedding at The Lange Farm.  Mom got to work with them on their album and soon they became good friends of ours.  They came over to celebrate Easter with us and shared the news that they were expecting!  Now, at 8 months pregnant, Bronwyn and Robin are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their baby boy.  Dad could not wait for their maternity session!  They came over a week ago and dad of course had a terrific time hanging out with them and getting some pictures of the parents-to-be.

Robin did pick her up, but the picture of him struggling is funnier.

This picture is a bit disturbing…

We are beyond excited for Bronwyn and Robin.  They are going to be fantastic parents!  Mom remembers going to lunch with Bronwyn not that long ago talking about what things would be like when she had a baby (Bronwyn was worried about climbing up lots of stairs with her stroller :) ).  We cannot wait to meet the baby and have all boy play dates!  Bronwyn, mom says you and her have to plan another lunch ASAP so you don’t go into labor in the middle of it!

Due with Two!

Mom and dad love Krystal and Matt!  They are so fun and always laughing.  They are also two of the nicest people you can know.  Dad had a great time at their wedding and couldn’t wait for their maternity session!  They are expecting twin girls!!  With how much energy and happiness Krystal always has, we know she’ll handle twins just fine.  And Matt is going to be such an involved and loving dad.  We cannot wait to meet the twins when they arrive and hope we get to capture memories for this growing family for a long, long time!
