Squish, Smash, and Obliterate the Cake!

First birthdays are bittersweet days for parents.  It is exciting to see their baby grow, but so much changes in the first year and it is hard to believe that just one year before the toddler now running around, saying a few words, and getting into everything was curled up in their arms as a tiny newborn.  Dad has photographed Carly and Will’s daughter through her first year, starting with a newborn session, then 3 months, 6 months, and 9 months.  Each time she had changed so much, had reached new milestones, and was doing new things.  This week she will turn one and Carly and Will brought her over for her one year session.  She had some fun eating leaves and grass outside which should have shown everyone how hungry she was!  When she sat in front of her birthday cake she not only smashed it, she dove in face first!  She grabbed handfuls and squished, smashed, and obliterated that cake!  Dad and mom said that she might not have been the messiest cake smasher but she sure did the best job of getting to all of the cake!

Happy first birthday to a sweet little girl who has two truly wonderful and loving parents.  Thank you for having us capture these special memories!

Kristen’s Son Smashes His Cake

Dad first met Kristen when he photographed her maternity session and he was able to meet her son when he was just a few weeks old for his newborn session.  They are such a generous family and they donated so much food for the hungry that they were one of the winners for our fall session canned food drive auction.  Time goes by so fast when babies are small and Kristen brought her little boy over last week for his one year session!  He showed off some dance moves and played with bubbles and smashed up his cake.  We are so happy we have met this terrific family!  They have such good hearts and are so kind and lots of fun to be around!  Happy 1st Birthday!

1 Year Smash the Cake: Amber and Wayne’s Daughter

Last year, just before Christmas, Amber and Wayne brought their newborn daughter over for a session:

It was wonderful to see them again for their little girl’s first birthday session!  Though she wouldn’t wear the Santa hat, she looked beautiful in her Santa style dress and just as cute in her personalized bloomers when she sat down to smash a big cupcake!  She was all smiles and fun until her hands got messy.  She kept looking at her frosting covered hands and then fussing and reaching for her mama.  So sweet!  Happy first birthday, and thank you for letting us be there to capture some memories during your first year.

Smash the Cupcake!

Weslie and Jeremy are wonderful people and have a beautiful family.  Their family represents two of mom and dad’s favorite things about what we do.  First we get to meet awesome people that become friends too.  Second we are there to capture memories for families as they grow and years go on.  It is an amazing thing to be a part of!

We first met Weslie and Jeremy to photograph their daughter’s newborn session and we got to watch her grow during her first year.  We were so happy for them when they had their son!  They brought him over for pictures when he was a little baby:

and again when he was a few months older:

and now little brother is one year old!  We had so much fun when they came over.  We got to catch up and play, and we got some fun pictures as little brother smashed his birthday cupcake too!  We are excited to see what the future has in store for this wonderful family.  We can’t wait until the next time we get to see them!

Look Whoo’s One! A First Birthday Session With Cute Outtakes

Mom Blogging:

I am late blogging this but our family has been busy with so many exciting new adventures that time got away from me.  The past two months have been filled with lots of milestones for our kids and it all started with our daughter’s first birthday!  She is so loved and so precious and it has been a gift from God to have her in our family and to share in all the amazing moments of her first year.  So much changes during that first year.  I think back to the day she was born and all the emotion Jason and I felt when meeting her and holding her for the first time.  When we took her home and saw the boys with her it felt as if she had always been there as a part of our family.  Now I am amazed whenever I see her chase her brothers around the house or feel her grab my hand to make me walk to the door to let the dogs out (yes, she is a born animal lover and she is that concerned with our dogs!) or hear her call out “Mama” when she wakes up in the middle of the night.  Though the night wake ups and the cries and the dirty diapers and the lost sleep can be frustrating as well, the first year goes by so fast and then they keep growing and I don’t want to miss a second of it.  I know it is a blessing to have this little girl who needs me!

For her birthday we had a “Look Whoo’s One” owl themed party.  This poster was hung at the party and shows images from each month of her first year:

Jason and I were up all night before the party making dozens of owl cupcakes to give to our party guests:

The birthday girl’s owl attire:

Here are images from her first birthday session.  I thought it would be really fun to share outtakes from her session too:).  Hope that everyone gets a smile from them!

I had so much fun picking a dress for her first birthday session.  Shopping for girl outfits is a completely different experience than shopping for boy outfits!  When I bought her dress I found a cute birthday hat to go with it.

Unfortunately the hat had a ribbon to tie instead of elastic to keep it on.  Outtake #1:  The struggle to put on the hat and have her keep it on!  It did not go well as you can see by her face.

As I said, she’s an animal lover so the only time she stopped pulling off her hat was when the cat walked up and she went over to her.  Outtake #2:  Kitty!

Not all of her faces are pretty smiles.  Outtake #3:  Her scary face!  This picture freaks Jason out.

Outtakes #4 and 5:  She walked up to Jason and put her face right into the camera.  Too funny!  EXTREME CLOSE UP!

Thanks again to Rachel for the adorable hair clip!

Outtake 6:  When I first had a girl I imagined hair bows and braids and headbands, and then I quickly learned how impossible it is to keep anything in her hair for more than few seconds.

Time to smash a cake!

Outtake 7:  Whenever there is cake, you have to let big brothers into the pictures too.

We cannot wait to see what our little girl has in store for us during this next year!  To everyone who follows our blog and follows us on Facebook, thanks for letting us share our family with you.
