Passing Down My Wedding Gown

My wedding gown has been preserved in a box since Jason and I got married.  From time to time, I have big ideas about what I’m going to do with it.  I thought about making it into a doll dress for a keepsake doll.  I thought about having it made into a baby blanket or Baptism gown.  Instead, it stays in its box in my mother-in-law’s closet.

That is now changing!  My daughter and I are bringing my gown to a dress maker and having it made into a First Communion gown for her!  It will be passed down to her younger sisters as well when they have their First Communions!  When it is their time to get married, they’ll want the experience of going to gown shops and picking their own unique dress.  They’ll have my veil if they want to use it, my garter, a few other items I have kept, and I am hoping to use some of the gown material to make a handkerchief to wrap their bouquet in or to sew into the underside of their own gown.  They’ll still have special keepsakes to use on their wedding days!

It is emotional thinking of my wedding dress being cut apart, and I’m feeling very sentimental.  It means a lot to know that it will have a new use with my daughters as they receive the sacrament of First Eucharist, but I feel an attachment to the gown that I wore when our family first started!  Before it was cut up, I wanted some pictures of my girls in it while it was still my wedding gown.  Jason (who is not as sentimental as I am about this at all!) took some pictures of each of the girls wearing it.  Seeing them and picturing them as brides made me cry so much!  There are so many gorgeous pictures of them in the gown and I had to share just a few quick favorites here.
